MusculoSkeletal Disorders - Some Encouraging News Print E-mail

HEALTH & SAFETY STATISTICS 2010/2011 Musculoskeletal pain

The Health and Safety Executive published key annual figures for 2010/2011 which made for some very interesting reading, especially the number of working days lost due to work related illness and workplace injury:

  • 1.2 million working people were suffering from a work-related illness.
  • 171 workers killed at work.
  • 115 000 injuries were reported under RIDDOR.
  • 200 000 reportable injuries (over 3 day absence) occurred (LFS).
  • 26.4 million working days were lost due to work-related illness and workplace injury.
  • Of the total reported figures, Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSD's) in Great Britain have seen a reduction in the number of work-related MSDs over the last 10 years.
  • In 2010/11 the total number of MSDs was 508,000 out of a total of 1,152,000 for all work related illnesses.
  • The total number of new cases reported was also down from 190,000 in 2009/10 to 158,000 in 2010/11.
  • Of the Upper Limb Disorders (ULDs) the total number of cases was 198,000 a decline from 223,000 in 2001/2002.
  • The estimated number of new cases was 75,000 a reduction from 86,000 in 2009/2010.

This makes for encouraging reading and would suggest employers and employees are better informed about the ways disabling conditions covered under upper limb disorders, hand, wrist, arm, elbow, shoulder and neck can be prevented and managed by way of good work place assessments and recommendation of the right product to carry out the job function.

The Maltron 3D keyboard range, we would like to think, has contributed a little in the reduction of reported incidences over the years.

All Maltron keyboards are available for hire; free of charge if subsequently purchased; please contact the office for further details.

Jeremy LeFroy visits PCD Maltron

On 6th October 2011 we were visited by the MP for Stafford, Jeremy LeFroy. The visit served two purposes, firstly to showcase the success of our recent Turkish order and secondly to discuss how small businesses may better serve their community, and the government help that is available for small businesses in the UK.

Jeremy is actively involved in building ties between local businesses, and thereby enabling more trade between them.

The photo shows a display of Maltron ergonomic keyboards, and pictured from left to right are Jeremy LeFroy, Stephen Hobday (founder of PCD Maltron), and Peter Hobday (MD of PCD Maltron). The keyboards in the foreground are (clockwise from top-left):

Maltron 2D (flat or "finger-friendly") keyboard fitted with a keyguard, Maltron left single-hand keyboard (Grey and Black are the more usual colours!), and a Maltron Expanded keyboard.

You can also see the pallets of packed keyboards, ready to be shipped to Turkey.

Picture by courtesy of Stafford Express and Star, who were sufficiently impressed by our activity to publish on 11th October, a report of the Export success of a local SME.
