L-type keyboard (UK Mac Qwerty).

The Maltron "L Type" two-handed keyboard model updates our existing proven design with new key layouts and a native USB controller for native operation with both PC and Apple computers.

Support for other languages are also practical e.g. US English - Russian Cyrillic dual language keyboard. These enhanced ergonomic keyboards use custom keyboard DLL files to add extra features such as on-the-fly Caps Lock switching between languages and extended AltGr selection of additional Cyrillic letters.

Other languages can be customer defined by using a base UK keyboard with blank language specific key-tops and stick on key-top symbols. The specific language letter layout could then be adjusted to suit using the free Microsoft keyboard DLL generator.

For the UK and US keyboards our standard letter layouts of Qwerty and Maltron have now been expanded to include the popular alternative Dvorak letter layout.

Maltron and Dvorak dominant keyboards are only supplied with single layout engraved key tops - dual layout pictures are shown in many documents to illustrate the two layouts available - and may be printed as typing guides.

Due to the high cost of preparing, manufacture and stocking of key top sets dual engraved key tops are now ONLY available for Qwerty dominant / Maltron secondary UK and US keyboard layouts.

All key positions are specifically mapped in the keyboard irrespective of layout selected, no additional setup is required in the computer in order to use the keyboard.

Due to various software application dependencies which we are unable to support directly we are changing the USB keyboards so that they ONLY support the basic four Apple standard multi-media keys on the number pad. Some of the key layouts and pictures on this website will still show the additional multi-media symbols, but these are being phased out during the first half of 2008.

Benefits of the Maltron Fully Ergonomic Keyboard.

• Two key groups for letters with a central number group keep wrists straight and strain free.

• Redefined thumb groups with double height key for spaces (left space is the E with the Maltron Letter layout) now also have double height keys for return and tab.

• Central numbers suit both left & right handed users.

• The letter keys are angled inwards to match natural finger movements and the keys for the longer fingers are recessed further to reduce finger "cramping" and provide a more relaxed hand posture.

• Large palm pads give a comfortable resting and relaxing zone for hands and arms during “thinking time”, to encourage blood flow and recovery.

• Four separate layout (2 x PC and 2 x Apple) key code lookup tables return correct key codes for PC and Apple specific functions.

The MALTRON letter layout:

The advanced MALTRON⁽¹⁾ letter layout is available as a primary or secondary layout on your keyboard⁽²⁾.

The most used letters are on the centre (Home) row reducing finger movement and learning time.

Operators who have been badly hurt by the "standard" flat Qwerty keyboard often prefer to learn the MALTRON layout when adapting to the new shape and confirm its easier use. Key caps are fitted to suit either layout, or may be dually designated as an option.

1. All Maltron letter layout keyboards also contain an alternative Qwerty key place map which can be selected by the user. Trying the Maltron Letter Advantage is therefore without any additional financial cost.

2. Dvorak keyboards have Qwerty as the alternative layout.

During the last 25 years more than 2,000 keyboard users have now successfully used a standard Maltron two-handed fully-ergonomic keyboard to recover from keyboard induced pain.

The MALTRON keyboard has been shown to relieve the symptoms of RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury) in hundreds of cases and has enabled many RSI sufferers to resume their careers.
