Distinction between the Two Handed Keyboard Types

There are two different QWERTY Adaptation courses. One for layout-89, one for layout-90.

Likewise, there are two Maltron training courses for the two-handed Maltron keyboard.

The difference is mostly in the position of the number keys and punctuation keys.

To confirm the layout of the keyboard you have you can look at the QWERTY row of letters and if the number 2 is above the letter W then the keyboard has layout 89.

If the number 2 is above the letter Q then the keyboard has layout 90.

Layout-90 number positions are more like the flat keyboard you will know - except for the escape key - which is in the central number area.

If you have one of our earlier keyboards it is most likely that it has layout-89. These diagrams show the important differences:

Layout-89

Layout-90

Number 2 above the Q and the double pairs of tall keys on the thumbs.
