How to improve your skill, speed and accuracy.

Key through exercises 36, 37, 38, 39, 42 and 43 (42 & 43 are on this page) frequently. Give yourself extra practice on the use of common words. These are in exercises 7, 17, 29 and in the paragraphs of exercise 41.

Practice common letter combinations given in exercise 32 and the three exercise using words keyed on letters under the fingers of both hands, 13, 30, 34.

Exercises 42 and 43 (42 & 43 are on this page) will give you practice on all the numbers and also some of the punctuation marks.

Exercise 43

Introducing the numerals. The numerals above the letters are closer to your home row than they look. This is because of the curve of the keyboard. As mentioned before, the keys are arranged in columns and this means your fingers move straight up and down and not sideways for most number keys. This may feel strange and your hands may take a few days to adjust. Straight up and down uses muscles in a stronger configuration than up-sideways and down-sideways.

If you have conscientiously worked through to here, you have now done enough to start work, but not under pressure. Remember it can take a couple of weeks for all your muscles and nerves to adjust and allow you to become comfortable and fluent so please allow yourself time to adjust and also to re-do these exercises.
Before you think it is all over - we would like to encourage you to investigate the other keys and combinations on your keyboard. Many of them do interesting things.
Here are a few examples:
In Windows the Alt-key with the Tab key will swap between applications. If you have two applications open - for example open a folder and then open another program. Alt + Tab will swap between them.
In most editing programs the control key with x,c and v are used for cut,copy and paste. (You can practice this in Wordpad, Notepad or Word applications). Don't forget to use the control key from the other hand - so the left control key with x and v, the right control key with c.
