Unit 7 Exercise 34
Introducing the Numbers
Learning to key the numbers on the MALTRON single handed keyboard is very easy. This is because they run in a sequence on two rows, one above the other. There is no need to use a shift key for numbers.
Place your little finger on the 1 and let the other fingers rest on the 2, 3 and 4. Stretch the index finger from 4 to 5 and back again. On the row above, the little finger is used on 6. The other fingers rest on 7, 8, 9 and the index finger stretches to the 0.
These exercises below help your fingers to get to know where they should go for numbers. If you always use the correct fingers, you'll soon be able to key numbers by touch as easily as the letters.
Key each row three times, be very careful to use the correct finger for each number:
Click into each box at the end of the first line and press Enter (Return) to start typing.

As a stretch exercise put your fingers on the home row (ATEH) and one finger at a time move the finger up to touch a number key and then back to the home row. This fingering of the numbers exercise is useful to develop ease and speed. For most people this stretch feels strange and it will take a week or two to get comfortable with it. As you are using your muscles in a new way be careful not to overwork them, always remember to take breaks.
